Meter Charges
Larger vehicles charge at the same rate as a normal car if there are four or fewer passengers in the vehicle. Please do not let their size mislead you into thinking you will be charged more.
After speaking to customers over the last few months, many have told us they don’t understand when they are charged a price, query it and then get told ‘it’s all down to the council, you need to read the card in the window’.
We have been in this business for countless years and we still have drivers come in and ask us to explain things on it. So simply put. As long as the vehicle is operating on a South Kesteven Tariff this is how it works;
1) The meter charges you a hiring charge
2) The meter then adds a set amount for each 1/18 of a mile (or uncompleted mile) you travel
3) If you stop at traffic lights or for example at a garage the meter does continue to run on waiting time
4) If there are more than four passengers a one off surcharge is added per passenger of 70p (This price only applies on council tariffs)
Our Tariffs
On a normal day Monday to Saturday between 06-00 and 23-00: the meter charges rate 1 (hiring charge £1.90, then £2.10 per mile)
Between 23-00 and 06-00 Monday to Saturday, all day on Sundays, Bank Holidays and on Christmas Eve until 20-00 and New Year’s Eve until 20-00: the meter charges rate 2 (hiring charge £2.85, then £3.15 per mile)
On Christmas and New Year’s Eve after 20-00. On Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day: the meters charge rate 3 (hiring charge £3.80, then £4.20 per mile)
Charges may vary for 6, 7 & 8 seat vehicles
Some vehicles, usually six, seven or eight seat vehicles may have their own tariffs registered with the council. This enables them to charge at whatever rate they have decided to register. A copy of their rates must be displayed prominently within the vehicle and the driver should be able to explain how their tariff works.
Due to increased running costs of vehicles, all of our six, seven and eight seat vehicles currently operate on a company registered tariff, which allows them to charge a higher rate if there are more than four passengers within the vehicle.
i.e. if the tariff would be rate 1 and there are more than four passenger’s rate 2 is charged
if the tariff would be rate 2 and there are more than four passengers rate 3 is charged
